Mind Body Counseling
Mind-body counseling is a holistic therapeutic approach that recognizes the deep connection between the mind (thoughts, emotions, beliefs) and the body (physical sensations, health, and behavior). Mindfulness, somatic and nervous system techniques are integrated with traditional talk therapy that directly engage the body to promote healing, emotional regulation, and overall well-being. The mind and the body are working together constantly via feedback loops to create a sense of balance by adapting to the many different stressors we face in our lives. Not all stress in our lives is harmful, but left untreated, chronic stress can leave the body and the brain less flexible and resilient resulting in poor health outcomes.
When we experience chronic stress or multiple stressors early in our lives, our physiology can be tuned to a heightened stress response that can wreak havoc on our physical health if left unchecked.
Although everyone experiences stress in their lives, some individuals feel as if their nervous system is stuck and they may struggle to relax and they may struggle to resolve physical health concerns. Mind-body counseling supports individuals where they are in their nervous system and supports the body’s ability to move safely to a place of connection and restoration.
